Student Intern Program

Union Bank interns gain real-world experience while working on challenging projects and make a valuable contribution to the bank. Internship opportunities span various departments throughout the bank including Information Technology, Finance, Audit, Compliance, Risk, Credit, Human Resources, Business Operations, and more.

Are you a rising Junior or Senior in your undergraduate studies, or a rising first year graduate student? Then consider applying for Union Bank's Summer Student Intern Program.

The intern positions are full-time during the summer, last a minimum of 12 weeks, and are paid on an hourly basis.

Additional intern program information:

  • Opportunity to participate in activities that encourage networking with peers, managers, and bank employees
  • Intern position locations include Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Arizona, and Washington, however exact positions and locations are based on the project needs within a specific department
  • Applications for the Internship Program are generally accepted between February and March each year
  • Interviews will begin in mid-March
  • Final intern selection and offers will conclude in April
  • Candidates will receive confirmation after applying and final status of their application on or before April 30
  • Internships will begin in May for semester school students or June for quarter school students

Student Intern Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the program include:

  • GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Enrollment at a 4-year college or university as a full-time student through the duration of the internship
  • Rising Junior or Senior in your undergraduate studies, or a rising first year graduate student
  • Additional specific requirements as determined by the needs of the intern project

Credit Associate

The Credit Associate position is entry-level and is designed to help recently graduated students develop the skills and experience necessary for a successful career in Commercial Lending at Union Bank. Recent undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.

Credit Associates work in the Commercial Credit Center (CCC) located in Irvine, California, supporting Credit Executives in the underwriting and loan management process for Commercial Banking and Wealth Management borrowers.

The CCC is a high-volume environment that emphasizes individual initiative, teamwork, and progressive levels of responsibility and compensation. Credit Associates are responsible for:

  • Demonstrating an understanding of the Bank's credit policies and underwriting guidelines;
  • Reviewing and analyzing corporate financial statements and preparing spreadsheets;
  • Providing written analysis of financial statement performance and trends that may impact the Bank's risk management process;

Credit Associates who successfully demonstrate teamwork, analytical abilities, and written/verbal communication skills while completing the required Union Bank classes are invited to interview for the Commercial Credit Training Program. On average, a Credit Associate is in the role for 24 months prior to being considered for the formal training program.

Position Qualifications

This is a highly competitive opportunity. At a minimum, candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • A recently acquired Bachelor's Degree (preferably in a business-related major including: Management, Marketing, Economics and/or Finance)
  • Exceptional interpersonal, analytical and writing skills are a must
  • Excellent organization, time management and attention-to-detail abilities
  • Computer literacy required, including knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Able to furnish proof of citizenship, permanent residency, or authorization to work in the U.S.
